As I Mentioned Earlier
I haven't been feeling well since Thanksgiving. I have been suffering from a stomach bug of some sort and haven't had any relief. I had it last year (2008) at the same exact time of year 2 months after having my youngest child. I have been doing lots of research online since then and I believe I may have a Thyroid problem and by the looks of the symptoms many people may have it and not know it. I am posting a link to the website with a list of symptoms for you to look over, share with loved ones or to take to your Dr. Many people are not tested for this disease and thrown in the blanket category of IBS, IBD, Crohn's, Ulcerative Colotis, etc without knowing what is really wrong. Click HERE to see the Top 10 Signs you may have a Thyroid Problem.
With this in mind I am also looking for a way to "heal" myself rather than "cover up" the problem. If this works I will be thrilled!! By doing this research I have learned a lot about my colon health and digestive system and have tried a few home remedies. One that comes to mind at the moment is to take cinnamon for diarrhea. I tried this and it actually worked, but I am not convinced that this is the cure for my ailment. I did, however, find temporary comfort.
By doing some more research I think I may have hyperthyroidism. I am having a lot of the symptoms found HERE and HERE. There is also a home test that you can do and you can find that HERE. Just in case the site ever goes down I would like to post how to do it here. This is what you do:
How to Do a Thyroid Neck Self-Check
This simple self-check may help identify if your thyroid is enlarged, one sign that you may need further examination by a doctor.
Difficulty Level: Easy Time Required: 5 minutes
Here's How:
- Hold the mirror so that you can see the area of your neck just below the Adam's apple and right above the collarbone. This is the general location of your thyroid gland.
- Tip your head back, while keeping this view of your neck and thyroid area in your mirror.
- Take a drink of water and swallow.
- As you swallow, look at your neck. Watch carefully for any bulges, enlargement, protrusions, or unusual appearances in this area when you swallow.
- Repeat this process several times.
- If you see any bulges, protrusions, lumps or anything that appears unusual, see your doctor right away. You may have an enlarged thyroid, or a thyroid nodule, and your thyroid should be evaluated.
TIP:
Don't get your Adam's apple confused with your thyroid gland. The Adam's Apple is at the front of your neck, the thyroid is further down, and closer to your collarbone.<!---endt1---->
If you would like to see the anatomy of the thyroid click HERE. I did some research on how to treat a hyperthyroid from home and THIS is what I found!
"Eating of kelp helps in almost all the thyroid problems. It is rich and natural source of iodine and thyroxine that restores the thyroid hormones. One should go for Vitamin B12, Vitamin C and Vitamin E are great elements that can bring hormones and enzymes in normalcy. One of the best home remedies is to have lots of cabbage family foods such as broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, kale; mustard greens etc. as they tend to lower down the thyroid function. Peaches and pears also share the same qualities with them and hence, they are good to have."
The article goes on to say:
"One should cut down the dairy products and should avoid nicotine, caffeine, any kind of alcohol, sweetened carbonated water (soft drinks), processed and junk food. They all alter the metabolism and hence may trigger hyperthyroidism. Some of the health experts suggest taking radioactive sodium iodine (known as iodine 131 or I-131) that can kill those thyroid cells that are producing excessive thyroid hormones without affecting any other healthy cells."
This is what I intend to start doing as soon as possible and I will follow up with the results.
