Amaretto Angelfood Cake with Toasted Almonds

It's very easy to change the flavor of your angel food cakes ~ simply replace the amount of water called for in the recipe to a mixture of water & ?? in this case Amaretto.
I used about 1/2 the amount of water called for and then added the remaining amount in liquor. I put the almonds in the bottom of the pan and then added the cake mix on top ~ they toast themselves while the cake is baking.
Try Maraschino Cherry Angel Food ...use 2/3 cherry juice & 1/3 water = amount of water called for in recipe. I also fold quartered cherries in right before adding the batter to the pan and then make a glaze with 10x sugar & cherry juice to drizzle over the cooled cake~ it's our favorite!
Kahlua Angel Food is awesome too. 2/3 Kahlua + 1/3 water = water called for in recipe. Add a 1/3 cup cocoa to the flour mixture and drizzle with Hershey Syrup laced with Kahlua when cool.
Creme de Menthe and a hand full of mini chocolate chips folded into the batter makes a great Mint Chocolate Chip Angel Cake.
Use your imagination.. the possibilities are endless :)
Never use more than a 2/3 to 1/3 ratio liquor or juice to water or the cake will fail. It will be too sugary/heavy for the eggs to support.
